A little clarification: Grateful Dead soundboard and matrix recordings are stream only - audience recordings are downloadable.

You may well know the following, but since you asked I will be Mr. Helpful.
Take for example the show you posted. There is an nice audience version.
http://www.archive.org/details/gd1978-04-16.sonyecm54p.berger.98509.flac24
Scroll down the page to individual files. If your preference is mp3 for an ipod, click on the VBR MP3 link to the right of each song. For higher quality and to burn to cd use the FLAC link. (You will need to convert the FLAC to WAV after downloading)

A “file download” window will appear – click “save” and then in the next window designate a folder ( give it a name, ie. “gd.04.16.78.aud ”) and click SAVE. With my high speed broadband internet connection I can usually have up to four songs downloading at a time.

Simple and rewarding. Enjoy.

And there are many versions to choose from...to listen to. Hunter Seamon’s matrix is superb, the Betty board is outathisworld, as is the CM board. Brought here the first time through a post in the GD forum. My first grok even.
